Role Overview
The Group Account Director – Subscriptions is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the performance, growth, and strategic direction of our subscription-based client portfolio. You will oversee client relationships, manage a small team, and partner closely with the Managing Director to deliver business strategy, commercial success, and operational excellence.
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on account management, ensuring outstanding client service, strong financial control, and scalable business growth. This is a role requiring someone who is willing to get involved at every level — from strategic planning to rolling up their sleeves and supporting day-to-day delivery when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and develop strong, long-term relationships with key subscription clients.
- Run and oversee client meetings, ensuring clear communication and delivery against objectives.
- Provide regular updates and insights to clients on performance and opportunities.
- Support the Managing Director in shaping and executing the overall business strategy.
- Identify and drive opportunities for growth, reactivations, and expansion within BAU campaigns.
Commercial & Financial Management
- Own budgeting and budget modelling across subscription accounts
- Develop client proposals, pricing, and commercial structures.
- Oversee invoicing and ensure accurate, timely financial processes.
- Track financial performance and optimise profitability.
New Business & Growth
- Lead and contribute to new business proposals and pitches.
- Support onboarding of new clients and lead business planning activities.
- Translate new opportunities into structured development briefs and delivery plans.
Operational & Team Leadership
- Manage and mentor Account Managers and the Subscriptions Manager
- Provide day-to-day management and development of direct reports and key suppliers.
- Ensure internal status updates are delivered clearly and on time.
- Drive consistent standards across account delivery and reporting.
Campaign & Delivery Oversight
- Oversee BAU campaigns, including reactivations and retention initiatives.
- Produce and manage creative briefs and development briefs for internal teams.
- Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
Data & Performance
- Lead data processing and analysis to inform strategy, reporting, and optimisation.
- Use insights to drive continuous improvement across accounts and campaigns.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a senior account leadership role, ideally within subscriptions, media, marketing, or a related field
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and financial performance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills
- Strong strategic thinking combined with hands-on delivery capability.
- Advanced Excel skills with strong data processing, analysis, and reporting capability
- A true team player with a practical, can-do attitude — happy to get stuck in and support wherever needed.
